Responsibilities:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Post-doctoral Fellow to join the CCDM Cereal Diseases team to investigate novel sources of genetic resistance, seek to isolate the genes responsible, and research underlying mechanisms governing the host-pathogen interactions.
In this role, you will carry out research into Septoria avenea blotch (SAB) a disease affecting oats caused by necrotrophic fungal pathogens Parastagonospora avenea.
Genetic mapping and resistance gene isolation via bi-parental, association or mutational approaches is a major component of the position, as well as developing reliable diagnostic genetic markers. Functional studies including gene expression, transformation and editing contribute to gene characterisation.
Communication with a broad scientific team including plant geneticists, molecular biologists, plant pathologists and bioinformaticians will make up a large part of your day-to-day activities, as well as supporting and supervising staff and students to help ensure discoveries in this field are making a significant impact.
In this role, you can expect many opportunities for professional development, with one of our Centre’s three objectives revolving around improving human capacity to meet the requirements of the agriculture industry.
We are looking for someone with a PhD in a relevant discipline such as plant pathology, molecular biology or genetics. Almost got a PhD? You can still apply! If your PhD is currently under examination or for imminent submission, we still want to hear from you.
