Description:

One position is available for a Research Fellow in Health Economics. The spine point awarded will depend on previous experience. The successful applicant will mainly work with Professor Rachel Elliott but also Professor Katherine Payne on specific projects. Three initial projects will be the focus for this position but the individual will be expected to work on new projects as they are funded.
The key purpose of this post is to develop and apply health economic methods to understand the impact of specific healthcare interventions. The successful candidate is expected to work with a large research team including health economists, clinicians, physicists, imaging scientists, biostatisticians, informaticians, implementation scientists, service users and commissioners. You will be primarily based in the Manchester Centre for Health Economics (http://research.bmh.manchester.ac.uk/healtheconomics). The successful applicant will join a growing team of leading health economists undertaking research on the supply, organisation, valuation and evaluation of healthcare. They will be expected to make a full contribution to the development of this team.

The position will offer the postholder opportunities to develop their skills in health economics methods and apply these skills to the high profile research projects and work with leading clinicians and researchers. The successful applicant will develop key skills in:

  • gathering, reviewing and synthesising relevant literature using appropriate systematic search methods
  • collating and analysing data from national databases
  • collecting primary resource use data
  • conducting regression-based analyses
  • building and populating decision-analytic models
  • working collaboratively with research team members
