Description:
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Applicants should have, or have already submitted a PhD in computational chemistry, computational biology, molecular modelling or related disciplines.
Responsibilities:
Applications are invited Postdoctoral Research Fellow in computational chemistry and molecular modelling to investigate the enzymatic regulation of the post-translational modification (PTM) S-acylation. The successful applicant will join the groups of Dr Jennifer Greaves, Dr Giuseppe Deganutti and Professor Chris Reynolds at the Research Centre for Health & Life Sciences, at Coventry University.
S-acylation (also called ‘palmitoylation’) is a prevalent post-translational modification involving the reversible attachment of fatty-acyl groups to proteins and acts as a molecular switch to regulate protein function spatiotemporally. Disrupted S-acylation is linked to human disease, including cancer, neurological disorders, and diabetes. Metabolic serine hydrolase enzymes are key components of dynamic protein S-acylation, however relatively little is known about their role in S-acylation pathways. The successful applicant will conduct in silico biomolecular simulations to understand the structural basis of dynamic S-acylation. This 16-month post funded by UKRI will provide the researcher with excellent training and developmental opportunities to support future career progression.
