Overview:

  • 2 x Part-Time 0.4 FTE / 14.4 hours or 1 x Part-Time 0.8 FTE / 28.8 hours, Fixed Term position for two years
  • Salary Academic Level B + 17% Superannuation
  • Based at the Melbourne CBD campus, but may be required to work and/or be based at other campuses of the University

About the role
As Research Fellow, you will work on the TREMS ARC Training and Research hub Theme 1 and the Tackling single use food related Plastics DECRA project. You will embed your research expertise into the life of the school through the development of high-quality, productivity-driven research networks across RMIT and with local and international, internal, and external partners. The project involves field work in Australia and network development internationally in Europe and the UK.
One Research Fellow will engage in research on practices of apartment waste production, disposal and management and use co-design approach to implement and trial emerging solutions from the research.
The second Research Fellow will undertake document and policy analysis, ethnographic work including households and help design and conduct focus groups and a DELPHI survey with experts. Experience with some quantitative methodologies will be expected.
The two roles could potentially be combined and staffed with one candidate at 0.8 FTE. Candidates are asked to specify which role they are applying for in their application. Candidates are also welcome to express interest in both roles.

To be successful in this position, you will have:

  • Emerging track record and recognition for quality research outputs which will contribute to the focus of the TREMS Theme 1 projects and the DECRA project and existing Discipline, and School research areas evidenced by publications, development of new research initiatives, research funding, and industry links.
  • Specialist knowledge of sustainability, waste and households and consumer related research, including a range of disciplinary perspectives on these topics spanning policy development and critical social sciences.
  • Demonstrated experience of social science research methods and planning, conducting and analysis of ethnography and semi-structured interviews, with households and/or practitioners in related industries.
  • Demonstrated experience of conducting large scale surveys.
  • Demonstrated experience in industry engagement including use of methods such as focus groups and workshops.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills appropriate for interacting with academic staff and industry, together with a strong commitment to teamwork and multidisciplinary collaboration.
  • Ability to build effective networks with colleagues and generate alternative funding projects through effective liaison with industry and government.
  • Demonstrated experience of research translation and policy development.
