ABOUT US

The Department of Neuromuscular Diseases is a hub for clinical and research excellence across the spectrum of spinal cord and neuromuscular diseases. Our group of world-leading clinical, genetic and basic science researchers focus their work on understanding the causes and biological mechanisms leading to Neuromuscular Disease and translating this knowledge into developing novel therapeutic solutions that is of direct benefit to neurological disorders such as motor neurone disease, Alzheimer’s disease and neuromuscular disease.
The Sleigh Laboratory, based in the department, uses mouse models to investigate the pathogenesis of Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT), with a view to developing targeted therapies for this debilitating condition.

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a Research Fellow to join the Lab and to work on assessing the role of muscle in CMT disease to inform clinical trials.
Using a conditional GARS1 mutant mouse and tissue specific Cre driver lines, you will gauge the relative importance of muscle and motor nerves in CMT2D pathology.
The role is available from 01 October 2024 and funded by Muscular Dystrophy UK for two years in the first instance.
