We are seeking a Research Manager with experience working with children with disabilities in a fast paced research environment. As a Research Manager within the Bloorview Research Institute, the successful candidate will be required to work alongside an interdisciplinary research team working in the field of childhood disability research and participate in BRI related events, committees and meetings. Strong critical appraisal skills, effective communication, interpersonal and facilitation skills as well as excellent organization, time management, and priority setting skills are critical to the success of this position. Within this role the Research Manager will have the opportunity to work within multiple research labs, with different scientists and investigators whose research is focused on neurodevelopmental conditions.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • A Master’s degree in a health-related field or a degree/diploma in project management
  • At least one year of research experience required
  • Advanced knowledge of research practice, procedures, regulations, and research ethics board applications
  • Demonstrated success in developing and managing project timelines and sub-contracts
  • Demonstrated success and understanding of managing finances and budgets for projects

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with PI regarding grant applications, new research proposals, report preparation, presentations, manuscripts and development and review of study protocols
  • Manage studies, including training, monitoring, and ongoing communications with other studies and organizing investigator meetings
  • Ensure quality, integrity and security on all study related information and data
  • Oversee submissions to REB and coordinating revisions, annual approval process
  • Develop and monitor timelines for existing studies, balancing the demands of multiple projects
  • Oversee research contracts
  • Develop, manage and forecast study budgets
  • Contribute to the preparation of required reports and knowledge translation projects (e.g. presentations, manuscripts, stakeholder progress reports, conference publications)
  • Develop policies and procedures related to the research program, ensuring external regulations and guidelines are followed
  • Manage, orient, onboard any new research volunteers, students, trainees, and staff
  • Assist PI in monitoring staff performance and annual performance assessments
  • Take a leadership role in the overall daily management of lab
  • Oversee purchases and maintenance of all research equipment
  • Ensure research is conducted in compliance with the Tri-Council Policy Statement, Good Clinical Practice, and Health Canada regulations and policies governing clinical research (e.g.TCPS-2, ICH GCP, Health Canada & FDA)
  • Support team activities (i.e. schedule meetings, preparing agendas/materials, taking minutes) and assist with research and related administrative tasks as required
