Description:
The Trauma & Orthopaedic Research Department are seeking interest from motivated and experienced Research Nursing staff, who are looking for an opportunity to undertake research activities within the service.
The post will be an external fixed term contract, or an internal secondment at Band 6, Full Time, start date to be negotiated but expected to be as soon as possible. End date 31/03/2025.
The Trauma and Orthopaedic Department is led by Professor Sharma, supported by a team of Consultants and research fellows. The department supports a variety of trials across acute traumatic injuries, elective surgical procedures and a range of bone related conditions. There are several actively recruiting studies, and we are looking to expand this over 2024 with the aim of building an expanding portfolio of Trauma activities. We also hope to engage collaborative working with the current ED and Stroke departments to create a Trauma Research Hub.
As a department, we see involvement in research as having a positive contribution to the clinical care we deliver to our patients. It also motivates the clinical team to practice higher quality, evidence-based medicine. We require potential candidates to be personable, organised and hard-working with a positive, proactive approach, and good interaction with the medical and nursing skills.
A degree of flexibility would also be useful-working patterns can be flexible and are open to discussion.
Patients are routinely recruited from the daily trauma meeting, outpatient or fracture clinic settings, and our current research activities involve:
Correction of common foot and ankle problems and complex deformities
Hip joint and revision surgery, hip resurfacing and treatment of hip problems in young adults, treatment of sickle cell hip disease
Treatment of acute knee injuries including sports injuries, ACL reconstruction, arthroscopic and joint replacement surgery and revisions
Limb reconstruction, correction of deformities, limb lengthening and treatment of limb infections
Paediatric orthopaedics, including neonatal hip screening, treatment of club foot and other common limb problems, rapid-access physiotherapy clinic, correction of limb deformities and lengthening
Shoulder, elbow, hand and wrist surgery.
Applicants must have a minimum of two years post qualification nursing experience of working in a speciality within Trauma/Orthopedics/ED areas, or you may have research experience in a different speciality. You must be able to take bloods, perform ECGs and undertake clinical observations; the role will also entail administrative aspects such as data entry and electronic form filling so you should have excellent IT skills.
