THIS IS WHAT DRIVES US. WHY NOT JOIN US AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

The Institute of Biological and Medical Imaging (IBMI) at Helmholtz Munich and the Chair of Biological Imaging (CBI) at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) are an integrated, multi-disciplinary research unit, which provide bioengineering solutions to urgent societal needs. IBMI scientists develop next-generation imaging and sensing methods to measure previously inaccessible properties of living systems, hence, catalyzing breakthroughs in biology, medicine, and the environment. Comprising 11 inter-disciplinary laboratories and scientists from more than 25 countries, IBMI offers state-of-the-art infrastructure for innovative research and an ideal environment to accelerate your career.
We now seek a highly qualified and motivated Research Physician (f/m/x) to drive the translation of novel optoacoustic imaging systems into the clinics.
We are looking forward to receiving your comprehensive online application, including your letter of motivation, CV, and academic transcripts of records, preferably in English.
Prof. Matthias Tschöp (Dr. Med., Dr. hc.), CEO of Helmholtz Munich: “We believe that excellent research requires a range of different perspectives. Diverse teams reach better solutions and are more innovative in their research topics.

Your tasks
Optoacoustic imaging and sensing can collect structural and functional information about health and disease offering novel ways to monitor health conditions and life-style or medical interventions. Building upon our extensive expertise in developing methods and systems, we are now focusing on the clinical translation of optoacoustic technology in cardio-metabolic medicine.
The successful candidate will drive clinical studies that aim to develop novel prevention and prognosis methodology in close collaboration with our clinical partners. The work is expected to pioneer methodology that monitors the development of different cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, including diabetes, in ways that move away from symptoms-based medicine, into the realm of continuous healthcare. This is a field with potential to accelerate your scientific career, greatly impact society, improve the efficiency and cost of healthcare and offer outstanding opportunity for commercial exploitation.
Your profile
The successful applicant should be a Physician (medical student or doctor) with great motivation to promote advanced technology and the future of medicine and excellent knowledge of the German language as required for patient recruitment.

Preferred (but not necessary) qualifications include:

  • Medical Device Regulation (MDR) certification or interest to become MDR certified.
  • Excellent track record of research achievements and publications in top-ranked journals.
  • Strong motivation, scientific curiosity, and commitment to scientific excellence.
  • Team player skills and enthusiasm to work in a multi-disciplinary, collaborative environment.
  • Command of the English language.

Benefits
Since 2005, we hold the TOTAL E-QUALITY award for exemplary action in the sense of an equal-opportunity organizational culture.
Helmholtz Munich is actively committed to diversity and inclusion in practice and is sustainably committed to equality.
The Diversity Charter has set itself the goal of promoting diversity in the world of work. By signing the charter, we commit ourselves to create an appreciative working environment for all employees.
If you fulfil all the requirements, you may be eligible for a salary grade of up to E 13. Social benefits are based on the Collective Wage Agreement for Public-Sector Employees (TVöD). The position has an (initial) fixed term of 2 years but may be extended under certain circumstances.
