Bachelor’s degree in the natural sciences and three years of post-degree professional research experience in an appropriate field, or a Master’s degree in the appropriate field and two years of such experience; or a doctorate in the appropriate field.
Preferred Qualification: The preferred candidate will have work experience or coursework in clinical laboratory sciences, microbiology, public health or infectious diseases. In addition, the candidate would have experience in handling of infectious clinical samples and/or human pathogens at biosafety level-2 containment. Experience with molecular techniques including DNA extraction, polymerase chain reaction, assemblies of targeted and whole-genome sequences, phylogenetic analyses, and data interpretations, is particularly relevant. Excellent written and oral communication skills are a must.

Under the direction of a higher-level scientist, the Research Scientist 2 will devote their time to biosafety level 2 and 3 laboratories and develop and validate rapid molecular and whole-genome sequencing-based assays for high-risk fungal pathogens. The Research Scientist 2 will also devote their time to analyzing and interpreting the single, targeted, or whole-genome sequences of fungal pathogens of public health importance and will perform additional duties as required.
