ABOUT FOLIUM SCIENCE
An opportunity at Folium Science for a Research Scientist specializing in Campylobacter has arisen. Folium Science’s mission is to be the first to use CRISPR technology to modulate microbiomes and their metabolic activities across the food and agricultural landscape using its patented Guided Biotics ® technology.
Your mission will be to leverage this technology to selectively combat Campylobacter pathogens in poultry and improve global public health. We are seeking a talented and motivated Campylobacter Scientist to join our dynamic team. Based at Science Creates, Old Market incubator and located in the vibrant city of Bristol, you’ll be at the epicentre of innovation and progress.
WHAT EXPERIENCE YOU’LL NEED:
- Ph.D. or equivalent experience in microbiology, molecular biology, or a related field.
- Proven expertise in Campylobacter research, with a strong publication record demonstrating contributions to the field.
- Proficiency in molecular biology techniques such as molecular cloning (Gibson & Golden Gate assembly) and genome engineering (recombineering) with reference to Campylobacter would be desirable.
- An understanding of CRISPR would be beneficial but not essential.
- Knowledge of phage-bacteria interaction would be a plus.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced research environment.
- Proven experience in working on grants and managing projects, demonstrating effective time and effort management to meet deadlines.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate scientific concepts, writing papers and reports.
- Ideally, prior relevant industrial R&D.
- Awareness of the regulatory environment for biotech products and/or an understanding of the food value chain Farm to Fork would be a bonus.
- Commitment to quality, safety, and compliance with regulatory standards in laboratory practices.
Responsibilities:
As a Campylobacter Scientist, you will play a pivotal role in our research and development efforts aimed at understanding and combating Campylobacter infections in poultry. Campylobacter is one of the leading causes of foodborne illness worldwide, and your work will contribute to the development of novel strategies for prevention and treatment. You will be a part of a funded project from Innovate UK in collaboration with Bristol Veterinary School (UoB) to extend the application of Folium Science’s Guided Biotics ® platform technology.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct research to develop solutions against Campylobacter pathogenesis in poultry.
- Optimize Guided Biotics to enhance efficiency in targets train Campylobacter.
- Collaborate with cross-functional colleagues to integrate CRISPR technology into our product candidate.
- Improve the delivery efficiency of the Guided Biotic into the target strain Campylobacter.
- Analyse experimental data, interpret results, and present findings to internal stakeholders and external partners through written reports and oral presentations.
- Stay current with the latest advancements in Campylobacter research and CRISPR technology to identify innovative opportunities for product development.
