Description:
The Department of Public Health Sciences (PHS) at the University of Virginia (UVA) School of Medicine seeks applications for Research Scientist position.
The successful candidate will work closely with Dr. Matthew Gurka, new Chair of PHS, as well as other investigators and project staff in the PHS department. Research experiences will span a number of initiatives across different areas of research, with a specific emphasis on maternal and child health research. The candidate will be expected to manage a research program spanning multiple disciplines and departments. The candidate will serve an essential role in various types of research, such as lifestyle interventions, disparities research, community-based participatory research, implementation science, and general interdisciplinary team science.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires a doctoral degree or master’s degree with significant experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Doctorate in public health, clinical research, behavioral sciences, health sciences, psychology, sociology or related field.
- Strong interest and experience in community-based research and working with at-risk and diverse communities.
- Data management skills (e.g., REDCap).
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
- Creative, independent, and highly motivated, with the ability to interact professionally in both research and community environments.
- Ability to lead small groups and work independently without supervision.
- Experience working on federally or industry-funded research trials.
- Interest in translational science and working with a multidisciplinary team of scientists.
- Experience with IRB protocols, data use agreements (DUAs), and other research administrative tasks.
- Data analysis experience (quantitative and/or qualitative)

This position will require periodic in-state travel.
This is a 12-month appointment with the possibility of renewal contingent upon satisfactory performance and the availability of funding. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
