Description:

POSITION SUMMARY:

This research scientist position is specifically designed to study cardiovascular diseases from a molecular and biochemical perspective. The applicant will join a multidisciplinary team of scientists experienced in basic and translational research, all working toward the overall objective of advancing the understanding of cardiovascular alterations resulting from cardiac arrhythmias. The employee will be responsible for designing and implementing experimental procedures required to fulfill the scientific goals of the team. Additionally, the successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining digital and physical records of the collected data, performing data analysis, and collaborating with the research team in the preparation of new scientific manuscripts. This position offers an opportunity for scientific growth through conceptualizing new ideas, generating preliminary data, and actively participating in the development of new scientific projects.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to write, submit and review manuscripts
  • Experience isolating cells (or nuclei) for scRNAseq, and experience in scRNAseq data analysis
  • Awardee of competitive training grants during the postdoctoral training (such as AHA postdoctoral fellowships)

Responsibilities:

  • Designing and performing experiments related to the physiological characterization of heart tissue using electrophysiological or Ca2+ imaging techniques in isolated myocytes
  • Designing and performing experiments related to the biochemical study of heart tissue using conventional biochemical and molecular biology techniques (e.g., western blotting and qPCR)
  • Preparing samples for single-cell or single-nuclei RNA seq
  • Utilizing image-analysis software for quantitative analysis of images, ideally based on artificial intelligence
  • Organizing and maintaining data in lab books and in the cloud for long-term storage
