Description:
THE OPPORTUNITY:
We are seeking a postgraduate research associate to join the GEMINI+ Edinburgh project ( G reenhouse gas E missions M onitoring network to I nform N et-zero I nitiatives) at the University of Edinburgh.
Understanding the flux of carbon dioxide on a city scale is vital to inform targeted polices aimed to reduce greenhouse emissions. The GEMINI+ Edinburgh project aims to quantify greenhouse gas emissions from Edinburgh by combining data from multiple sources including five EM27 spectrometers, a network of low-cost PM sensors and satellites.
In this role, you will help install the EM27 instruments and PM sensors and process the incoming data into useable data. This will involve developing data streams to access the incoming observations, creating algorithms to transform the observations into greenhouse flux estimates and presenting this data in an understandable way. You will be part of a small team working on the project and you will be expected to take initiatives as well support both the science and technical team.
This post is fixed term (18 months) and full-time (35 hours per week). We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working. However, there will be a need to be in Edinburgh for sensor installations.
YOUR SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES FOR SUCCESS:
- Extensive research experience with PhD or equivalent within atmospheric science or similar.
- Experience developing data analysis software and processing large datasets.
- Evidence of up-to-date knowledge of atmospheric science, emission estimates and atmospheric measurement techniques
- An ability to work effectively in both a team and independently.
- An ability to manage competing demands of projects successfully.
