JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a Research Scientist II - In vitro for our Discovery site located in Durham, NC.
We are seeking a highly motivated, skilled scientist with flow cytometry experience to join our In vitro Services team. The successful candidate will have a solid understanding of immunology and will act as a flow cytometry technical expert. This role will be responsible for completion of all aspects of assay workflow including method development, reagent selection, sample preparation, sample acquisition, data analysis, interpretation and report writing. The position is hands-on, and the work is performed in close cooperation with a team of scientists in a fast-paced environment where a commitment to teamwork, quality data and speed is essential.

Successful candidates in this position will:

  • Have hands-on experience with fit-for-purpose method development for standard immunophenotyping assays, receptor occupancy assessments, and other cell and multiplex bead-based assay formats using multi-color flow cytometry platforms.
  • Prior hands-on experience in maintaining and operating multi-color flow cytometers (incl. instrument troubleshooting, vendor communication and training of new users).
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills with strong scientific curiosity, initiative, and resourcefulness.
  • Possess exceptional organizational and planning skills enabling management of multiple, concurrent tasks & priorities.
  • Self-driven and enthusiastic with the ability to thrive in a dynamic environment.
  • May supervise research and/or scientific staff, as appropriate for scope of responsibilities.
  • Assist in the oversight of the laboratory and mentor technical staff in areas such as protocol interpretation, method development and refinement, study-related problem resolution, and technique validation.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

The following are minimum requirements related to the Research Scientist II position.

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree (B.S./B.A) or equivalent in a scientific related discipline. Master’s degree (M.S./M.A.) or Ph.D. preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 8 years previous directly related laboratory experience in a pharmaceutical or contract laboratory environment. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.Other: Exceptional analytical and problem-solving capabilities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in a team environment. Able to prioritize work and meet deadlines under minimal direction. Proficiency in the use of standard software including Microsoft® Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc. and with standard laboratory calculations. Proficiency in the use of different flow cytometry instrumentation and data analysis software (e.g. BD FACS DivaTM, FlowJo, FCS ExpressTM) with the ability to troubleshoot for routine and non-routine work.

  • The pay range for this position is $95,000-$115,00. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
