Description
The Tai lab in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at the University of Illinois at Chicago is seeking highly energetic and organized applicants for a full-time Research Scientist position. This role will involve managing a colony and conducting in vitro experiments. Our research focus is understanding how blood-brain barrier dysfunction contributes to Alzheimer’s disease as a therapeutic target, and experimental procedures include brain endothelial cell isolation, in vitro drug screening and other biochemical analysis.
Duties and Responsibilities
Writing manuscripts and giving presentations of the data.
Writing competitive grant applications with the assistance of the PI.
Working with and training graduate and undergraduate students and the lab.
Manage a large mouse colony including colony maintenance and genotyping.
Isolate brain endothelial cells from mice
Conduct a high-content screening campaign.
Validate compound activity in vitro and in vivo
QUALIFICATIONS:
Qualifications: Experience in colony maintenance and in vitro experiments on brain endothelial function is essential. Drug screening experience using primary cells, including brain endothelial cells is important. Enthusiasm for learning and gaining research and lab management experience, and the ability to coordinate and supervise others effectively are critical requirements of the position. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and organized, and strong communication skills are a must. This position requires three years of previous research experience, a Ph.D degree in biological sciences, neurosciences or other related fields.
