Description:
We seek to hire a Research Senior Technician to support our Riparian Corridor Restoration and Red Oak projects at Pomerene Forest Laboratory. This position provides essential research and field technical support for an externally funded grant that focuses on restoring 11 acres of riparian forest and grassland along a headwater stream in the Muskingum Watershed, in the context of streamflow and water quality. It will also support an internally funded project that aims to understand survivorship, growth, phenology and wildlife value of red oak ecotypes in the context of climate change.
Position duties for the Riparian Corridor Restoration project will include vegetation and hydrological monitoring, invasive plant species removal, native species plantings, on-site communication of progress, maintenance of tools and supplies, training/supervision of undergraduate students with respect to vegetation monitoring and invasive removal techniques and contribution to the development of habitat and restoration management plans. The individual should be competent in use of power and hand tools, preparation of herbicide mixes and operation of an ATV. Certifications in chainsaw operation and commercial pesticide application are desirable but not required. There may be professional development opportunities to learn these skills through formal trainings.
Position duties for the Red Oak project will include mapping and tagging red oak trees, collecting and collating biometric forest data, aiding in data analyses with faculty guidance, organizing and digitizing historic experimental library records and the supervision of an undergraduate student assistant.
The position will be based at Pomerene Forest Laboratory in Coshocton, Ohio, which is managed by the College of Food, Agriculture and Environmental Sciences.
