Description:

As research sister / charge nurse you will work under the supervision of Senior Research Nurses providing care to patients within the NIHR Sheffield Clinical Research Facility (CRF). They will be responsible for the safe, effective, and efficient delivery of the CRF’s clinical research portfolio, ensuring patient safety is upheld and that clinical research activity is compliant with governance requirements.
The post holder will need to possess an understanding of research processes, regulatory and governance arrangements, as well as an understanding of the core business and function of the CRF. They will work to ensure the unit’s activity meets national and local NHS targets.
The post holder will manage multiple and competing deadlines, displaying excellent interpersonal and communication skills. They will be responsible for managing problems, sometimes at short notice. We therefore expect the knowledge, drive, and resilience to see problems through.
The post holder will be responsible for developing and sustaining their own knowledge to meet NMC revalidation requirements. They will work with our T&E lead and clinical educator to keep their knowledge and skills up to date and set personal objectives for continuing professional development.
As part of the role the post holder may be expected to represent the CRF at Regional, National and International meetings. Therefore confidence and professionalism amongst a range of stakeholders are essential characteristics.
The post holder will support the CRF Team Leaders to deliver an expanding portfolio of commercial, experimental medicine and grant funded research. They will ensure the safe and efficient delivery of research to meet National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) strategic aims and objectives.
They will possess an understanding of research processes and governance arrangements and have a detailed insight of the core business of the CRF to ensure the unit’s activity meets National and Local clinical governance requirements.
The post holder will work closely with CRF partners and stakeholders to facilitate the safe, effective and efficient delivery of clinical research, prioritising patient safety and data integrity. They will ensure all clinical research activity is compliant with research and clinical governance requirements.
The ability to manage multiple and competing deadlines is essential, therefore excellent interpersonal and communication skills are imperative, along with a resourceful, positive and adaptable approach to the role.
The post holder will be expected to promote positive work behaviours and attitudes in line with Sheffield Teaching Hospitals PROUD values. They will be required to provide management and clinical decision-making support to the team leaders and senior management team in a range of clinical management scenarios.
The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Sheffield Clinical Research Facility (CRF) is a joint venture between the University of Sheffield (UoS) and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The CRF has a base in two of the main acute sites of the Trust: the Royal Hallamshire Hospital (RHH) and the Northern General Hospital (NGH), and provides a highly skilled team of clinical and administrative staff to support STH, UoS and the wider research community to deliver an extensive portfolio of clinical research activity within specified study timelines and targets.
The CRF supports a wide and increasing portfolio of studies across a breadth of clinical specialities. It provides an excellent environment to develop research skills and provides an education and development programme for clinical researchers. The CRF is a service delivery engine and works collaboratively across the organisation to provide researchers with a cross-city unit dedicated to delivering research for the benefit of patients. The CRF has been awarded an NIHR grant to further develop Experimental Medicine in South Yorkshire.
