Description:
The Neuroproteomics laboratory is seeking a Research Specialist to assist in cutting-edge investigations of the human brain directed towards understanding the alterations in brain circuitry that occur in schizophrenia and autism. The MacDonald Lab at the Department of Psychiatry utilizes innovative mass spectrometry-based proteomics approaches to investigate synaptic protein networks in psychiatric diseases. The laboratory is looking for a Research Specialist who will assist with research activities utilizing human brain tissue and model systems. As a member of our research group, the successful candidate will receive training in mass spectrometry and molecular biology techniques, and will be part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary research department that provides multiple opportunities for professional development and growth.
Responsibilities:
- Dissect, process, store, and organize brain tissue.
- Perform protein extraction and preparation of samples for liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry.
- Assist in the development and modification of procedures for lab operations and protocols.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain mass spectrometry laboratory instruments.
- Utilize proteomic software.
- Keep accurate and detailed records in a laboratory notebook and across laboratory databases.
- Communicate with and assist collaborators, technicians, graduate students, post-docs, PIs, and colleagues.
- General laboratory maintenance including cleaning glassware, disposing of chemical and biologic waste, maintaining stocks and inventories of reagents and solutions.
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Psychology, Neuroscience, Sociology or related research field.
- Minimum of one year of work experience in a research project and/or related clinical setting is required.
- Familiarity with computers and common software packages required.
- Working knowledge of research methodology strongly preferred.
