POSITION SUMMARY
The Translational Aortic Research Group, a collaboration between University Health Network and the University of Toronto, seeks a full-time Research Technician under the supervision of Dr. Jennifer Chung (Division of Cardiac Surgery) and Prof. Craig Simmons (Translational Biology and Engineering Program, Ted Rogers Centre for Heart Research). Responsibilities include maintaining a comprehensive aortic database and tissue bank, conducting mechanical testing on aortic tissue, performing histology, and assisting with basic lab work and data analysis. We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable candidate, preferably with an engineering background and prior experience in bench lab research.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Engineering.
- Minimum 6 months lab experience, preferably in bench research.
- Applies technical skills precisely in routine lab procedures.
- Exercises good judgement within established guidelines.
- Collaborates well under supervision, seeks guidance as needed.
- Self-motivated, proactive learner.
- Can assist and train other lab personnel.
- Communicates effectively verbally and in writing.
- Primarily interacts with supervisors and fellow technicians, promoting teamwork.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Responsibilities:
- Compiles and organizes data from various sources to maintain the aortic database and tissue bank efficiently.
- Conducts mechanical testing on aortic tissue samples following standardized protocols.
- Performs histology procedures, including tissue sectioning, staining, and microscopy analysis.
- Communicates experimental findings effectively and maintains accurate records of all experimental data.
- Monitors and ensures the proper maintenance of laboratory equipment and chemical/cell stocks.
- Coordinates the ordering and inventory management of supplies, materials, and equipment necessary for research activities.
