The Institute for Adult Learning (IAL), an autonomous institute of the Singapore University of Social Sciences, is at the forefront of building capabilities and continuing professional development for an effective, innovative and responsive adult learning sector.
The IAL Research Division champions applied and innovative research grounded in academic rigour to provide a strong knowledge base for the development of practice in CET, sustainable economic and workforce performance, and informed policies and practices. Using interdisciplinary approaches employing both quantitative and qualitative techniques, the research covers CET system design and practices, adult education, lifelong learning, jobs, skills, careers, labour market issues, pedagogy, andragogy, and praxis, among others.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The position will report to the relevant Senior Researcher in Research Division and will work in collaboration with the Principal Investigators and the Project Manager for the project(s).
The responsibilities of the Researcher include, but are not limited to the following:
- Contribute to the design, development and implementation of specific research projects including:
- Conducting literature review
- Designing research instruments
- Collecting and managing data
- Performing data cleaning, preparation, and analysis
- Compiling and organising data findings
- Communicating research findings in required formats (reports, articles, presentations)
- Performing other project administrative duties and day-to-day project-related logistics.
- Contribute to dissemination activities such as seminars, webinars and conferences, as well translation of materials into outputs suitable for reaching out to non-research stakeholders.
- Any other duties, including cross-divisional projects or events, that may be assigned by the management from time to time to meet the needs of the organisation and changing environment.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- A degree in education / social science / economics / statistics / psychology (behavioral science) with substantial quantitative training.
- Interest to pursue research in the field of economic development and social equity, with regards to work, employment, learning, skills, labour markets and technology.
- About two years of work experience in research and/or policy areas using quantitative methods. Those without the requisite experience may still apply.
- Knowledge in statistical analysis techniques and ability to perform statistical analyses using tools such as STATA or R.
- Sound analytical skills, with the ability to connect theoretical knowledge and empirical data with emerging social issues.
- Ability to write and document research findings clearly in research presentations and reports.
- Good communication, administrative and project management skills.
- Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team.
- The successful appointee will be based in IAL Campus located at Lifelong Learning Institute at Paya Lebar.
