The role of the Resident Medical officer is to support the practice of Consultants in the Medical Society at Blackrock clinic and work under the supervision of the Consultant to ensure the delivery of high quality, safe and effective patient care.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Medical degree, MBBS or equivalent.
  • Evidence of registration with Medical Council of Ireland.

Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Consultant’s and Blackrock Clinic, the Doctors standard duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Participate as a member of the multi-disciplinary team in the provision of care to all patients attending Blackrock clinic.
  • Diagnose and treat patients under direction of the Consultant.
  • Ensure that duties and functions are undertaken in a manner that prioritises the safety and well being of patients
  • Perform an admission and/or discharge assessment as required and write detailed and legible reports in the medical record
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests.
  • Initiate, monitor and review treatment.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and colleagues.
  • Attend and participate in relevant meetings, committees, case conferences, ward round; followed by documentation of findings on each patients chart, follow through with actions arising from the round or review of patient.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary clinical audit and proactive risk management programmes and facilitate production of all data/information for same.
  • Co-operate with investigations, enquiries or audit relating to the provision of care.
  • Maintain professional standards in relation to confidentiality and ethics abide by the Medical Council ‘Guide to Ethical Conduct and Behaviour. (www.medicalcouncil.ie)
  • Seek advice and assistance from the Consultant/Blackrock Clinic with any assigned case or issue that proves to be beyond the scope of his/her professional competence in line with principles of best practice and clinical governance
  • Engage with technological developments as they apply to the patients and the service.
