Description:

This post offers an exciting opportunity to join a team of excellent team of Respiratory Nurses in Swansea Bay University Health Board
The post holder will work within the Respiratory CNS team and will provide specialist advice and coordinate the care of patients with respiratory conditions with a particular focus on Non-invasive ventilation, Oxygen therapy as well as general respiratory care .
You will be supported within this role by the wider Respiratory team to build skills, competence and knowledge prior to autonomous working
You will provide specialist care for NIV, oxygen and general respiratory in both the acute inpatient setting and community
You will work closely with the multi-disciplinary team coordinating and developing the service and work collaboratively with healthcare professionals across acute, community, primary and secondary care to provide patient centred service.

Responsibilities:

To plan, evaluate treatment and care for respiratory patients using the required assessment tools, agreed pathways and clinical guidelines.
Obtaining and interpretation of blood gases (both capillary and arterial) and applying results to management of patients requiring acute NIV and guiding treatment plans
Assess patients suitability for long term oxygen therapy and prescribing within guidance as required
Supporting Senior Nurse Specialists to deliver patient specific care within their sub specialities i.e. Neuromuscular, BIPAP, oxygen and general respiratory .
To assess patients and provide specialist respiratory advice for their care
To participate in MDT working to improve patient centred care
To support Outpatient clinics and take a lead role in these when competent
To provide education and support to hospital ward staff, student nurses and the wider community teams
To participate in audit and service development projects to assess service and ensure best practice
The team currently operates a rotational model between the acute hospital site and community
