JOB SUMMARY
Tired of corporate red tape?
With their Head Offices based in Durban, our client is a growing retailer that operates 3 distinct brands. With over 300 stores nationally they have an offering for a diverse LSM range and the ability to operate in all manner of malls as a result. An increase in footprint is a top priority for a relatively new kid on the block which is enjoying unprecedented success. This growth must, however, be sustainable, well thought out and executed strategically.
To take charge of their small but busy property team, they are looking for an legally minded individual who has an excellent reach in the retail landlord and development space nationally. Although many of their property administration functions are managed externally, this role will be the interface between the internal and outsourced administrators to ensure that rentals are correctly billed and timeously paid. However, it’s most vital function is to lead the charge in store expansion around South Africa. As such, regular travel will be involved into both rural and urban areas, and tasks such as sourcing and evaluation of sites, landlord networking & terms negotiations will fall to you. Once deals have been struck, the process of store design approvals, materials procurement, shopfitter appointment and project management will also form part of this diverse role’s accountabilities – albeit via management of staff and contractors.
The successful incumbent will need to have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in retail leasing on behalf of an occupier, a relevant tertiary qualification, and a strong network within the retail sector. Whilst a proven ability in managing fit-out projects and teams would be advantageous, this aspect of the role may be new to you. Candidates relocating to Durban with a stable track record will be considered. Experience using MRI software would also be beneficial
