Our Risk & Compliance department have an opportunity for someone to join them as a Risk & Compliance Officer. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their experience of a broad range of compliance and risk related issues impacting a UK regulated law firm.
This is a full-time position, based out of our Bristol office.

What you’ll do
The main purpose of this role is to support the Risk & Compliance Manager to monitor, manage, review, advise and report on compliance and / or risk related issues across the business - both on a day to day basis and in relation to specific Risk & Compliance and firmwide projects.
Key responsibilities

As part of the wider Risk & Compliance team, assist with all aspects of legal service quality, regulatory compliance and risk management, in particular:

  • Administering the team’s core processes, including Joiners, Movers & Leavers, firm-wide Practising Certificate renewals, Foreign Lawyer Register, Annual Declarations and fee earner file reviews;
  • Helping to implement, maintain and operate effective policies and processes for managing OC’s exposure to risk and regulatory compliance;
  • Participating in Risk & Compliance and other firm-wide projects and initiatives as required;
  • Internal audit and on-going administration of the firm-wide Quality Management System to satisfy our ISO 9001 accreditation to include root cause analysis and maintenance of the audit tracker;
  • Assisting with the maintenance and development of the firm’s risk registers;
  • Ensuring compliance by the firm and senior management with the SRA Authorisation Rules;
  • Advising the firm on and maintaining the Security Clearance and Baseline Personnel Security Standard register, to include assistance with the firm’s ongoing staff vetting programme;
  • Reviewing and ensuring the firm complies with the SRA Transparency Rules;
  • Reporting on all key regulatory and compliance outcomes as required;
  • Keeping up to date with professional, legal and best practice developments in legal service provision, regulatory compliance and risk management;
  • Helping to identify risk and compliance issues that require follow-up or investigation;
  • Assisting with the administration and completion of client and supplier DDQs;
  • Helping to manage the firm’s programme of legal supply chain management;
  • Helping to manage the compliance learning management system and monitor firm-wide completion of compliance training; and
  • Receive, record and manage regulatory breaches across OC, providing advice to fee earners and escalating where appropriate.

What we’re looking for
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a keen interest in compliance and regulatory work, with a proven ability to operate within a constantly evolving and challenging environment.

You’ll also need to have:

  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written at all levels
  • Exceptional attention to detail, appreciation of the importance of accuracy
  • The ability to work discreetly with confidential information
  • Confidence working under pressure with conflicting deadlines
  • The ability to organise multiple tasks and prioritise accordingly
  • The ability to act on your own initiative and take ownership of projects or issues, plus ability to work as part of a team
  • Proficiency in utilising MS office tools, in particular Excel
