Description:
- Main Duties and Responsibilities1.1 To be able to competently carry out an interview with a patient in order to establish base line data. 1.2 To be able to effectively examine and assess a patient, identify their problems and needs. 1.3 To be able to relate findings of assessment to presenting disease/pathology.
1.4 To be able to set appropriate aims and objectives in conjunction with the patient. 1.5 To be able to plan and carry out realistic regimes of treatment appropriate to each patient, using evidence based practice. 1.6 To be able to give appropriate advice ensuring patient understanding,cooperation. To be able to adjust your approach if the patient hascommunication or cognitive problems.
1.7 To be able to discharge the patient at an appropriate time and determine the outcome of Physiotherapy management of the patient. 1.8 To plan and prioritise your own workload under supervision of a senior member of staff. 1.9 To be able to select patients for inclusion on the weekend treatment lists. 1.10 To contribute a fair share of duty on the on-call rota.2.
Communication and Leadership 2.1 To be responsible for maintaining accurate, contemporaneous andcomprehensive treatment notes for each patient. 2.2 To be able to keep patients records adhering to Service Standard.2.3 To write professional clinical reports under supervision of Senior Staff.2.4 To be familiar with the Organisational Structures and communication links and liaison with the Multidisciplinary Team. 2.5 To be able to establish a rapport and give effective advice to patients, staff and carers.2.6 To be able to effectively communicate condition related information topatients and relatives. 2.7 To be able to impart unwelcome news to patients and relatives.2.8 To maintain a calm, professional approach to their duties.
To exhibit committed attitude to all aspects of their work. 2.9 Communicate with patients to gain consent to treatment and to agree/inform expected treatment outcomes. 2.10 To communicate with people with communication difficulties, e.g. deafness,dysphasia. - Human Resources3.1 Supervise Physiotherapy Assistants in the absence of senior staff.3.2 Supervise Physiotherapy students on clinical placement in the absence of their designated supervisors.3.3 Be responsible for your own CPD and professional and personal development.3.4 To actively promote Physiotherapy by taking part in Careers Conventions.4. Planning and Organising4.1 Delegate patients to Physiotherapy Assistants. 4.2 Provide cover for senior physiotherapy staff during absences, holding the team bleep and organising the caseload.4.3 Be familiar with department and/or ward routines.4.4 Contribute to smooth running of Department.
- Development/Teaching5.1 To participate in structured and informal teaching programme.5.2 To be conversant with I.P.R./Staff Development system and participate in theprocess, by attending annual appraisal with superior and review.5.3 To demonstrate skills gained during a placement using presentationtechniques and provide in-service training to qualified and unqualified staff.5.4 To participate in maintaining a personal development plan (PDP), and engaging in continuous Professional Development and reflective practise. 5.5 To maintain critical care competencies and attend in-service training. 6.
Physical and Finance Resources6.1 Report and remove from use faulty equipment.6.2 Be responsible for the safe use of equipment especially by patients under your care.6.3 Ensure your competence to use equipment. 7. Research, Development and Audit 7.1 Undertake audits and assessments of your own practice.7.2 Use evidence based practice, audits and published research to inform yourPractice.7.3 Participate in research activities as requested. 8.
Analysis and data management 8.1 To submit activity data in prescribed manner using Trust Medway system.8.2 Interpret clinical guidelines. 9. Freedom to Act9.1 To work as an autonomous practitioner in line with the code of conduct and Standards of practise issued by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and Health Professions Council.9.2 To work within the Health Service Policy and Strategy.9.3 To work within professional code of practice and clinical guideline
