Description:

SECTION 1- MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES: To advise and train patients, carers, families and staff of other agencies to ensure physiotherapy treatment is fully integrated into the patients care programme. Represent the physiotherapy department in the inter-disciplinary team, providing advice to other health professionals. To supervise physiotherapy assistants, technical instructors, physiotherapy students and assistant practitioners. To be an autonomous practitioner being professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of their professional and clinical work.
To undertake patient visits and attend meetings training etc hence have access to a vehicle and a valid, up-to-date UK Drivers license. Work across 7 days including weekend days and Bank Holidays where the service operates across 7 days per week, 365 days per year. To manage a caseload of patients. Using evidence based/client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions To delegate appropriate work to unregistered staff within the multi-disciplinary team To participate in the triage, assessment and treatment process for patients referred to the services in the current rotation.
To motivate patients to work with treatment programmes and towards treatment goals. To provide treatment, which will include use of therapeutic electrical equipment, manual handling and therapeutic handling of patients. Provide ongoing reassessment and evaluation of response to treatment and adjust goals accordingly. To provide advice on patient care to other health, social and voluntary sector services SECTION 2- KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS To communicate with patients/service-users/carers/relatives in any means required in a sensitive and appropriate manner (verbal, gesture, written) To advise other agencies, health care professionals, carers and families in physiotherapy issues.
To provide reports as appropriate for other agencies e.g. social services. To gain consent from patients and negotiate agreed goals and treatment plans To be responsible for the safety and welfare of patients, colleagues and self during the treatment period in accordance with professional standards and health and safety regulations. Assess for, prescribe and issue a range of equipment including mobility aids and aids to daily living.
To assess, plan, implement, analyse and review complex situations under supervision To use therapeutic equipment, including electrical equipment, safely and be responsible for its safekeeping and maintenance To manage people with chronic diseases and have the ability to recognise the need to refer to other agencies e.g. Medical consultants, social services or to discuss with more senior Physiotherapy staff. To evaluate treatment approach and adjust accordingly To report adverse incidents in accordance with Trust policy. To work to standards set by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and national standards e.g.
NSFs. To demonstrate good time management skills to plan and prioritise own client caseload effectively. To attend in-service training and mandatory training as per the Trust requirements To be responsible for maintaining Patient records in line with Trust policy and professional standards. To maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with the Data protection act and professional standards To demonstrate a proactive approach to work To assist in the training of other colleagues as appropriate To support and supervise non-qualified colleagues.
To have a working knowledge of Trust policies/procedures and CSP code of conduct and adhere to these at all times To participate in personal development review, and be responsible for complying with agreed personal development plan to meet set objectives To participate in departmental staff meetings, unit development meetings and departmental audits To be aware of, comment on and/or actively participate in changes on policies, procedures or service developments. To embrace and support line management and the department in making service improvements within the workplace. Participate in training and development activities that are relevant to the job role To maintain own competency to practice through CPD activities and maintain CPD portfolio which reflects personal development To be accountable for own actions, with support through regular supervision. To be accountable for the delegation of work to unqualified staff To participate in clinical audit projects as required by Tameside Hospital Foundation Trust Maintain own professional standards and continued professional development file.
SECTION 3- EFFORT AND ENVIRONMENT To have access to a vehicle for work, with insurance for business use, car tax and in date MOT and hold a valid full drivers license for driving in the UK To keep up to date with and uphold safe manual handling techniques To be able to use a computer and relevant software packages relevant to the job role As part of contracted hours, to work weekend days and Bank Holidays where teams on the rotation provide a 7 day service
