JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Degree or Diploma in Safety (mandatory); Workplace Train the Trainer qualifications (highly desirable)
  • Certifications: RTW Accreditation (mandatory); First Aid/CPR Accreditation
  • Experience: Minimum 7 years operational safety role in an industrial workshop or manufacturing environment; with project site experience also being highly desirable.
  • Skills: Leadership in cultural or organisational change initiatives, safety systems implementation, root cause analysis and working knowledge of WHS legislation / regulations / codes of practice.
  • Travel: Willingness and ability to travel interstate up to 50% of the time month on month.

Responsibilities:

As a Safety Advisor, you will report directly to the Head of QESH, Australia and will be based at our Maitland or Cardiff Service Centre. You will be expected to travel interstate (approximately 50%). Day to day you will be responsible for:

  • Champion Safety Accountability: Establishing a ‘back to basics’ first principles safety foundation at a site level for daily operations, that will drive an improved safety performance through workforce governance, stewardship, and training.
  • Safety Systems Implementation: OneESH development, implementation and maintaining of risk assessments, JSAs, VoC, training packs, compliance registers, skills matrices, needs analysis aligned with training plans and business safety objectives driven by a OneESH co-operative.
  • Proactive Injury Prevention & Injury Management: Coordinate and implement OneESH proactive measures for our approach to injury prevention, management, rehabilitation and return to work activities.
  • Incident Management: Lead timely incident reporting, investigation, OneESH corrective actions, and follow-up.
  • Employee Engagement: Boost engagement by gaining the workforces trust with a solid background and subject matter expertise in safety fundamentals and an uncomplicated practical value-adding safety approach with timely implementation and ongoing following up always through to completion to show a force to the business’s safety commitment.
  • Business Relationship Building: Cultivate strong working relationships with operational supervisors and managers to foster a safety-focused culture and collectively deliver on an engaged safety first workforce.
  • Consultation & Communication: Responsible for and leading with site management enhanced safety engagement and awareness through organising regular avenues of employee consultation and communication, including by example pre-starts and toolbox talks.
  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to all relevant statutory, legislative, regulatory, and Sulzer safety requirements, including by example the basics of complying with registering and licensing plant, maintaining fire certification, coordinating health surveillance and monitoring, the list is endless, but as a safety professional it comes as firsthand knowledge.
  • Audit Leadership: Plan, support, lead, and conduct internal and external safety audits.
  • Management System & Certification: OneESH development, review, and implementation of policies, procedures, and through our OneESH co-operative, the processes to maintain the Management System and Certifications.
  • Safety System Management: Promote and maintain the OneESH agreed upon processes that drive and support the ESH Management System with (highly desirable) prior experience using ‘SharePoint’, ‘Safety Culture’ and ‘Mircosoft Teams’.
  • Performance Reporting: Report safety Lead and Lag Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in line with business requirements on a weekly, monthly and needs basis to support safety as applicable and drive change as required.
