JOB DESCRIPTION

The primary purpose of the Safety and Compliance manager position is to lead the KEPT Company’s compliance and safety team in analyzing fleet safety and operational risk (including workers compensation related risk), and subsequently developing and implementing applicable risk mitigation programs.

Below is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below.

  • The Safety and Compliance Manager will be the company’s subject matter expert for fleet safety and Department of Transportation (DOT) FMCSA / SAFER performance and will work in conjunction with the KEPT compliance and safety team, conduct audits / assessments of local KEPT operations and work with district / regional managers to close compliance and safety risk gaps.
  • Develop safety briefs and bulletins to improve the knowledge of field managers and staff.
  • Coordinate with the Chief Administrative Officer regarding claims analysis and post-accident investigation.
  • Support KEPT service philosophy by further developing a culture of safety and collaborating with compliance team members to firmly establish the company’s culture of safety at the local operational level.
  • Keep abreast of transportation risk management and occupational safety and health topics by pursuing continuing education opportunities, then communicating important updates to KEPT stakeholders.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of ten years’ experience in a transportation / service industry compliance and safety management position.
  • Must be proficient in understanding general transportation, fleet safety management controls and fleet operations including a good working knowledge of FMCSA and SAFER regulations.
  • Must have the knowledge and ability to find the root causes of Alerts in SMS Scores and develop a plan for improvement.
  • Experience with fleet operations
  • Experience with WC related exposures to trucking/transportation/industrial services.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to travel on an as-needed basis.
  • Problem solving ability and skills working with senior management. Above average interpersonal skills.
  • Must be a self-starter, able to set work schedule, and manage work area to best align with the needs of the organization.
  • Ability to work in a team-based environment.
  • Goal and result orientation.
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks with minimum supervision.
  • Above average typing skills with proficient use of Microsoft Office products and must easily adapt to new computer-based systems.
  • Strong presentation skills.
