Description:

ZTEX Construction is a heavy civil contractor specializing in earthwork, concrete, asphalt paving, underground utilities and overall project management. We are locally owned, and we are currently looking for a Safety and Compliance Manager.
The Safety and Compliance Manager is responsible for preserving the workplace by limiting potential risks to workers. Collaborates with management to develop, prepare, and implement safety and security policies and procedures. Coordinates the safety and security programs to promote and ensure a safe working environment. Evaluates the effectiveness of safety and security programs. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable, collaborative, energetic, positive, proactive, willing to learn and grow with the company.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of the basic principles of occupational safety within the construction industry, training policies, regulations, specifications, and requirements governing safety, compliance, and accident prevention.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of assessments, inspections, and investigations as related to job responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated experience within the construction sector as an Occupational Health and Safety Officer, Technician, Specialist and/or coordinator in a progressive capacity.
  • Able to manage stressful situations and address potential problems.
  • Ability to apply deductive reasoning and apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking in ways others will understand.
  • Must be able to make presentations and conduct training at all levels.
  • Good knowledge of data analysis and risk management
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License with an excellent record.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of our projects.
  • Keep up to date with OSHA Regulations, Compliance and Reporting, and implement changes as needed.
  • Previous supervisory experience required.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is required.

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field.
  • Must have at least two (2) years of experience in construction safety management and have adequate safety training (First Aid, CPR, AED, and OSHA-510/CHST.
  • A combination of experience and education will be accepted.
  • Must possess clean driving record.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Moderate and sometimes strenuous exertion required, including sustained walking, standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, lifting and carrying.
  • May have to work on ladders, in tunnels and confined spaces, hazardous atmospheres and in protective garments.
  • May work in adverse conditions which require exposure to inclement weather, noise, noxious odors, and/or gases.
  • Able to push, pull or lift 10 – 20 lbs.
  • Is required to conduct on-site visits to construction locations.
  • Is required to be on call 24/7.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS

As a condition of employment, you will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening and physical screening. If applicable to the contract, you may also be required to submit through a background check. Must have reliable transportation to/from work, must have a valid driver’s license at time of application.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the compliance of all relevant health and safety regulations.
  • Develops, coordinates, oversees, and participates in the day-to-day operations of company-wide occupational health and safety programs designed to reduce risk, ensure workplace safety, and prevent injury, occupational illness, and damage to property.
  • Administers, develops, and executes training programs to improve knowledge, skills and ability in employee’s safety.
  • Develops and executes health and safety plans, risk assessments and develop safety protocols in the workplace according to State and Federal rules and regulations.
  • Maintains functional safety-related manuals and documentation, including preparing and distributing appropriate communications.
  • Develop an action plan to address accidents/incidents, address and implement any changes to avoid recurrence.
  • Evaluate practices, procedures, and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the laws.
  • Develop and enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety.
  • Maintains a Corrections Action Plan Logs to ensure safety observations and or violations are corrected in a timely manner.
  • Monitors legislative and regulatory changes at the Federal, State, and local levels, as well as trends and innovations in the field of occupational health and safety.
  • Monitors company compliance with policies and laws by inspecting operations, equipment/machinery and employees work habits.
  • Conduct thorough investigation of accidents and incidents.
  • Attending project meetings, staff meetings.
  • Responsible for documenting and reporting all claims.
  • Manage any OSHA inspections and reporting.
  • Responsible for all safety and compliance reporting.
  • Must ensure all company vehicles are in compliance with DOT regulations.
  • Conduct training and presentations for health and safety matters and accident/ incidents prevention.
  • Conduct weekly employee training at the job sites and document.
  • Responsible for Safety Stand Downs.
