About the OPPORTUNITY
We have a great opportunity for a Safety Engineer to join our JORN Acquisition and Sustainment Programs based at Edinburgh Parks, SA or Melbourne CBD.
We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight and hybrid working.
You will be responsible for providing SME advice relating to engineering and operational changes being carried out across the JORN Acquisition and Sustainment Programs. This requires performing hazard identification, analysis and determination of practical controls to minimise the associated risks. This role will see the successful candidate become a valued contributor to the JORN program.
BAE Systems is committed to provide ongoing training and development to ensure the required skills and knowledge of engineers across their disciplines is developed. Therefore, this role may be suitable as a developmental opportunity.
We encourage applications from candidates with varying Engineering and Project Safety backgrounds for on-boarding as a Safety Engineer in this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Support BAE Systems in the delivery of system safety engineering solutions and advice for projects undertaken within a structured Safety Engineering methodology
  • Support the identification and assessment of hazards, and the development of mitigation strategies, associated with Project system level products
  • Author and deliver MIL-STD-882E analysis reports such as Subsystem Hazard Analysis (SSHA), Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), Operating and Support Hazard Analysis (O&SHA), Health Hazard Analysis (HHA), Safety Assessment Report (SAR), and CoA DID compliant Safety Case Report (SCR)
  • Support the determination of safety requirements for BAE Systems designs, and also to suppliers and vendors
  • Maintain JORN Project’s Hazard Log and supporting documentation
  • Support the analysis and close out of System Safety investigations in a timely manner

About YOU

  • Bachelor of Engineering qualifications in Electronic, Electrical, Mechanical, Software or Computer Systems Engineering or a suitable combined engineering discipline (or equivalent)
  • In depth knowledge of Systems Safety frameworks and their application in Defence environment (desirable)
  • Demonstrated experience in using tools including DOORS, Windchill and Bowtie XP
  • Demonstrated experience within an engineering discipline
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to manage and prioritise own activities to meet project schedules
  • Self-motivated and able to work effectively without supervision
  • NV1 Defence Clearance required
