Description:

POSITION OVERVIEW

The purpose of this position is to provide support to the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) function by facilitating the daily operations of the department including policy, procedure, training, auditing, and recordkeeping to ensure compliance to federal, state, and local regulations as well as company policies and procedures.

CRITICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES

  • Evaluating Information to Determine Compliance with Standards: Using relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards.
  • Education and Training: Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
  • Communicating with Supervisors, Peers, or Subordinates: Providing information to supervisors, co-workers and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
  • Analyzing Data or Information: Identifying the underlying principles, reasons, or facts of information by breaking down information or data into separate parts.
  • Making Decisions and Solving Problems: Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems. Use of problem solving tools such as 8D, DMAIC, A3, or others.
  • Production and Processing: Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Identifying Objects, Actions, and Events: Identifying information by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities, and detecting changes in circumstances or events.
  • Monitor Processes, Materials, or Surroundings: Monitoring and reviewing information from materials, events, or the environment, to detect or assess problems.
  • Systems Evaluation: Identifying measures or indicators of system performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance, relative to the goals of the system.
  • Organizing, Planning, and Prioritizing Work: Developing specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work.
  • Safety and Security: Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective safety for the protection of people and property.
  • Interacting with Computers: Using computers and computer systems to set up functions, enter data, process information, develop forms, present informational reports, etc.
  • Tools: Computers, office equipment, personal protective equipment (hardhat, safety glasses, etc.), measuring devices such as tape measure, micrometer, calibration, etc.
  • Technology: Electronic mail software and Microsoft Office software, specifically PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 4 years’ related EHS preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, EPA regulations; familiarity with ISO 9001 standards.
  • Ability to train others in an effective manner.
  • Must have strong organizational and administrative skills and a working knowledge of Microsoft office.
  • Strong ability to interact professionally with all levels of employees and leaders.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours as necessary to support multiple shifts and locations.

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work to supply products and services that meet or exceed the customers’ expectations. Follow the documented quality systems and processes to satisfy our customers’ needs.
  • At the direction of the Human Resources Manager, execute the company’s EHS strategy, including policy, procedure, training, audits and recordkeeping for employees of all departments, at all company locations, to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Serve as company EHS champion and work proactively and collaboratively to foster a culture of safety and compliance.
  • Conduct audits of all facilities and processes to ensure compliance.
  • Lead and coordinate incident investigations following EHS events. Ensure proper documentation is completed and submitted to proper agencies when required.
  • Serve as the local expert resource for environmental compliance issues, including a thorough understanding of the facility’s environmental permits, hazardous waste management, stormwater, and other applicable state and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Facilitate site safety committee meetings.
  • Plan and execute safety and environmental training for new and existing employees and contractors.
  • Collect and analyze injury and illness data, identify and track injury correlation, determine root causes, determine corrective actions and recommend suggestions for improvement.
  • Manage routine safety reports including data acquisition, documentation, record keeping, monitoring, review and approval.
  • Maintain regulatory recordkeeping for a variety of EHS programs.
  • Collect data, manage filing systems of the EHS management systems, and maintain training records for each team member.
  • Ensure written EHS programs are reviewed and kept current. Effectively communicate changes to team members.
  • Remain up to date on new safety-related regulations, safety equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Function as primary liaison between the company and government agencies.
  • May assist directors, managers, and supervisors in other duties or special products as needed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
