Description:

Ayrton Group are seeking a Safety Systems Engineer for a role with our client, a large Utilities organisation. This role is advertised for Dublin but our client also has a location in Cork and will consider candidates for either location.
This is full time contract role of 26 months with the potential for extension and can offer a hybrid model of work.
Please note, this role requires oversight of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and the Isle of Man regions and as such requires periodic travel to support business needs.
The successful candidate will, in conjunction with other Safety Team members, act as the central point of contract for day to day support and provision of Health and Safety information to client staff and stakeholders.. They will also assist with development and rollout of client Health and Safety initiatives as required and assist the Health and Safety Manager in doing so.
The Health and Safety team provides day to day support, advice, measurement and assurance to the business covering a diverse range of utilities related activities, including capital and operational projects and programmes.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Relevant third level qualification in engineering (or relevant discipline) and/ or Health and Safety is required (Diploma, Degree).
  • A minimum of five years post-graduate experience in a professional engineering/safety environment, minimum of 3 of which should be in a professional safety role.
  • Formal, recognised professional health and safety qualification (e.g. FETAC/IOSH H&S diploma, BSc etc.)
  • Detailed knowledge of relevant safety legislation and ability to interpret and translate such information into business policy and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of HSE management systems, aspects and controls.
  • A persuasive influencer and negotiator.
  • Self-confidence, discipline and a commercial approach to establish credibility at all levels in the business up to senior management level.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully influence key internal and external stakeholders and identify external issues which will impact business performance.
  • Proven ability to act as an advocate for the development and implementation of change.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining effective partnerships with key stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Very strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work proactively within a team.
  • Successful applicant must have a full Driver’s licence.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Health and Safety Manager in the creation, development, implementation and communication of client health and safety strategy, policy and procedures, incorporating legislative requirements, industry best practice and other requirements related to the client Integrated Management Systems.
  • Provide support to management on Health and Safety policy and strategy and ensure monitoring and reporting on overall compliance to these standards by the rest of the client business.
  • Contribute to the annual risk-based network health and safety audit and inspection strategy, covering all operational and construction activities and responsibilities.
  • Ensure that statutory reporting of accidents, incidents and ill health is undertaken in accordance with current legislation and procedures in Ireland, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man and Scotland.
  • Escalate risks and issues to the Health and Safety Manager as appropriate.
  • Support the delivery of the client risk assessment program on an annual basis.
  • Ensure all risks are managed and escalated where appropriate.
  • Support client operations and construction teams in safe delivery of projects across the network, interface with contractor H&S teams to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and regulations.
  • Support Health and Safety requirements of client procurement processes.
  • Support the implementation of contractual financial adjustments where required.
  • Work with client departments and stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Support the DSE assessment program for client personnel.
  • Support any initiatives that may come up from time to time.
