Description:

The Calgary TELUS Convention Centre is looking to hire a full-time Sales Manager in our Sales Department.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Sales, this position is responsible for seeking and securing business event opportunities within an assigned market, along with proactively growing the Calgary TELUS Convention Centre market share now and into the future.

  • Event planning and logistics experience including audiovisual, décor, tradeshow, and catering services would be a definite asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft suite of products.
  • Previous experience using a CRM/event booking system and event floorplan software, with experience using Ungerboeck (Momentus) a bonus.
  • Exceptional attention to detail to ensure accuracy and quality in all aspects of work.

Education

  • Preferably a post-secondary education in a related field.

EXPERIENCE & REQUIREMENTS

  • 5+ years of industry-related experience in a similar position.
  • Experience with the hospitality sales cycle would be considered an asset.
  • There will be times when you are required to work some overtime and weekends.
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada.

Responsibilities:

  • Consults and connects with prospective clients to expand market share for corporate and association events, such as conventions, tradeshows, meetings, etc.
  • Responsible for both generating new business from all segments as well as expanding the breadth of business from existing clients.
  • Develops relationships to strengthen and expand customer base and loyalty.
  • Qualifies, prospects, and conducts face-to-face sales meetings as well as initiate email and telephone solicitation to potential/existing clients to generate business opportunities.
  • Follows up on inbound internal and external leads.
  • Prepares comprehensive and compelling proposals and sales presentations.
  • Creates and issues contracts and invoices and ensures that deposits are followed up and paid in line with the due date.
  • Negotiates contracts and closes the best opportunities for the CTCC based on market conditions and economic impact.
  • Works closely with industry partners, planners, and suppliers to develop selling synergies.
  • Promotes and represents the CTCC at relevant trade shows, conventions, and industry events.
  • Hosts client site visits and familiarization tours.
  • Develops an annual sales activity plan, including financial figures, which will become part of the annual sales budget.
  • Meets with event organizers, clients, and suppliers to guide the best use of the facility and its services.
  • Completes a thorough handover to the Event Management team for the planning phase to ensure a smooth transition for the client.
  • Uses the event software program effectively, ensuring accurate data capture and correct entry of client information and event details.
  • Maintains and updates the event software program to reflect real-time changes and communicate effectively with internal teams.
  • Maintains open and effective communication with internal departments, partners, and suppliers to ensure a successful event for the client.
  • Analyzes post-event comments from the client and internal departments for future reference and follow-up.
  • Follows business protocols and parameters to ensure the viability and sustainability of the business.
  • Demonstrates an interest in keeping current with the latest trends and economic conditions.
  • Travel as required.
