Description:

A new opportunity has just become available for a Sample Machinist who can add value to our Green Thread Design Studio.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proven work experience in ladieswear, with all types of fabrics and designs
  • The ability to work accurately with a high attention to detail.
  • To be responsible, reliable, and self-motivated
  • Excellent attendance record
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team with excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Must be able to read and write.
  • The ability to understand (read) a pattern, sketch and information is very important.
  • Must be able to sew all types of garments (e.g. pants, tops, skirt, dress, jackets) and fabrics (e.g. woven, knits).
  • Must be able to operate all types of industrial machines and know what they are used for (understand construction of garments).
  • Must be able to solve problems by involving the relevant people.
  • Must have knowledge about quality standards of garments and that it is production friendly.
  • Must be punctual, driven and have good communication skills.
  • Able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to cut various fabrics from Wovens to knits an added advantage.

Responsibilities:

  • To produce a sample garment according to quality standards and requirements with simplified construction methods, on time quickly.
  • Assemble the sample garment from beginning to end following fabric, colour and size instructions from designer and patternmaker.
  • Laise with the patternmakers regarding garment construction and any pattern discrepancies or fabric problems. Advise the designer/patternmaker/ labour clerk regarding the best way to construct a sample. Discuss any”tweaks” to the design instructions before the garment goes into production.
  • Collect trims required for the sample garment
  • Carry out an other machining of finishing work as required by the sample Room Manager.
  • Must be able to press a garment to give it a “finished” appearance.
