Description:

Are you hard working and motivated to learn how to care for frail older trauma patients? If the answer is yes, please read on.
We are looking to recruit a Senior Clinical Fellow to support the expansion of the Elderly Medicine and Major Trauma services.
The role would particularly suit doctors who have completed IMT training (or equivalent) who are looking to progress to specialty training in Geriatric medicine and also those who wish to go down the non-consultant grade or SAS route.
You will be trained in Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment and provide clinical input to patients admitted under the Major Trauma pathway under the clinical supervision of the existing Consultant Geriatricians. You will also work with surgical teams from across a range of surgical specialities to enhance the quality of care provided to elderly patients who present with traumatic injuries.

YOU WILL: -

Work at registrar level within the Elderly Medicine department at the Royal Preston Hospital. You will work with the Consultant Geriatricians who will provide clinical and educational supervision.
Attend the daily trauma meeting.
You will be expected to see new patients admitted under the Major Trauma pathway to provide CGA.
Work with your supervisor to develop a proactive service for proactively reviewing these patients to ensure rapid recovery, early recognition and treatment of complications, and proactive discharge planning.
Develop experience in general medicine and elderly medicine (CGA, frailty, the geriatric syndromes, osteoporosis management and advance care planning).
Develop skills in communication (including obtaining quality collateral histories and advance care planning) and participate in multidisciplinary team working.
You will attend (and contribute) at the Major Trauma service governance meetings.
You will be invited to attend the Frail-Elderly Trauma course which runs at the Trust twice a year.
You will have opportunities to lead a service development or quality improvement project and work with our continuous improvement team to measure your success.
You will be expected to complete annual mandatory training and appraisal/revalidation requirements.
You will be given opportunity to present at our weekly departmental educational meeting.
Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a major acute trust in the North West, with all of the usual specialties on site, as well as being a Tertiary Centre for Lancashire and South Cumbria for Neurosciences, Nephrology, Oncology, Plastic Surgery and Burns.
Undergraduate medical student teaching commenced in Oct 2003. We offer the full range of acute outpatient and inpatient services to the 380,000 people living in Central Lancashire.
The Department is staffed by 9 Consultants; there are 11 Middle Grades which include 4 Training posts (ST4-8) and 7 non-training Trust appointments. There are 3 ST1-3 and 5 Clinical Fellows who take part in the 1:8 rota. The role is supported by Nurse Practitioners.
Our department offers you the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in CGA and experience in caring for patients with traumatic injuries. You will also develop non-clinical skills in service development and quality improvement. You will be exposed to clinical governance aspects of the service (for example observational attendance at Coroners Court). Although this is not a formal training post, you will receive close clinical supervision in a supportive learning environment. You will receive educational opportunities and time to develop your interests and Portfolio.
We will care for your health and wellbeing alongside our training registrars and junior doctor team. You will work within this supportive team which is continually striving to learn and improve.
