Department: Youth Development
Reports to: Youth Development Program Director
Position Summary: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Provides direction for the children in the classroom, and implements program curriculum. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Meets educational and experience qualifications , minimum of 12 Child Development College Units.
- At least 18 years of age (The age minimum may be higher depending on state law).
- CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
- Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
- Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
- Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.

Responsibilities:
- Ensure Curriculum is developmentally appropriate manner, meeting the individual physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs of the participants, as guide by The YMCA achievement gap.
- Nurtures children through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.
- Supervises the children, classroom, and all activities including ADA accommodations where appropriate. Follows all procedures and standards.
- Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
- Cultivates positive relationships, conducts parent conferences, and maintains effective communication with parents. Engages parents as volunteers and connects them to the YMCA.
- Maintains program site and equipment, including but limited to classroom boards.
- Maintain a 80% retention for program
- Maintains required program records; including, but not limited children’s attendance.
- Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
- Ensure Title 22 compliance at all times; including but limited to safety and ratios.
- Assist with planning and attending parent/caregiver workshop.
- Work with volunteers and community partners, as needed.
- Attending all required trainings and staff meetings.
- Ensure all collaborations, accusations and affiliations are maintained.
- Uphold and exemplify the YMCA’s Core Values and principles of Character Development.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
