Responsibilities:
Newington College is currently seeking a permanent part-time School Counsellor/Psychologist for our Stanmore Secondary Campus. The position is available for an immediate start, though negotiations regarding the commencement can be discussed with successful candidates.
The school counselor role is multifaceted and pivotal in ensuring the holistic well-being of students, staff and wider community within the College. Central to this role is addressing and assisting with a spectrum of challenges that students may encounter and offering confidential support tailored to each student’s needs, which may include assessment, counselling intervention, and consultation. Collaboration is also key, the School Counsellor is expected to work closely with teachers, parents, and other school staff to develop intervention strategies, facilitate communication, and ensure a coordinated approach to student support. Additionally, the School Counsellor promotes preventative programs from wellbeing awareness to coping strategies and interventions. Through ongoing assessment, advocacy efforts, and professional development, the School Counsellor strives to create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
This position is a part-time (0.5 FTE) permanent position commencing as soon as possible that is required to work 41 weeks per year which is a combination of 38 term-time weeks and three weeks of non-term time to be worked flexibly during school holiday in agreeance with the Head of Counselling.
