SUMMARY

The Children’s Nutrition Research Center is starting a Digital Assessment Core to support a novel new Program Grant funded by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. The Program Grant will leverage innovations in the objective assessment of children’s sleep, TV, tablet, and phone use to examine how screen use impacts sleep, cognition, and weight status https://pediatrics.jmir.org/2022/1/e33569. As a member of the Digital Assessment Core, you will contribute to this pioneering work by supporting the objective assessment of sleep, TV, tablet, and phone use, managing inventories of devices, and assisting in the post-processing of data. This position requires a high-performing individual with exceptional communication, teamwork, organizational and time management skills to successfully carry out the aims of the Digital Assessment Core and meet the needs of the Program Grant.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, or related field preferred
  • Experience in database administration
  • Expertise in Python programming and Shell scripting
  • Expertise with Linux platforms (Ubuntu)
  • Experience building User Interfaces
  • Experience in computer vision algorithms/systems
  • Experience with SQL

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, develop, and troubleshoot data collection software (Python and Shell scripting).
  • Implement software on embedded devices and systems.
  • Maintain and debug scalable embedded hardware solutions (Nvidia embedded systems with Jetson).
  • Set-up embedded hardware systems in the homes of research participants and maintain participant confidentiality.
  • Conduct data testing and quality control procedures and communicate results to the team.
  • Manage an inventory of embedded hardware systems and wearable devices, preparing devices for deployment in the field. Post data collection, downloading, and post-processing data according to specific requirements and project needs.
  • Remote monitor and troubleshoot embedded and wearable devices when deployed on-site for data collection.
  • Maintain large complex database management systems of multi-modal human subjects data and software for further analysis including human labeling, data retrieval, data manipulation, backup, and recovery.
  • Participate in the management of projects, development of workflows, reviewing project scope to ensure projects are on time.
  • Provide basic instruction, when necessary to: undergraduates, graduates, post docs, faculty, staff and external users wanting to learn how to use the instruments for their research.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
