Corbion is seeking a strong Scientist and key member of the Ingredient Solutions team and the Functional Ingredients & Solutions business unit. The primary responsibilities of this role will be leading R&Ds enzyme characterization and biochemical analysis in addition to analytical evaluation of food ingredients.
Responsibilities:
- Play a key support role in enzyme biochemical analysis and research, help to build the enzyme analysis capabilities in RDA Lenexa lab.
- Work as a team member in a cross-functional team environment to support enzyme-related projects.
- Develop and implement enzyme analysis capabilities and procedures, provide technical insights and support to other RDA project teams, and help to strengthen RDA’s enzyme science and technology competencies.
- Support sales and Corbion customers for their needs in enzyme analysis, trouble-shooting, solution development, and trainings.
- Scan industry and academia for new enzyme analysis techniques and proactively propose potential opportunities for their use within Corbion
- Support the RDA team through analytical techniques regarding ingredient analysis and characterization to deliver both quality and cost effectiveness
- Be flexible in taking additional tasks as needed to support company’s business goals
Key Accountabilities:
- Competent in conducting all enzyme analysis, developing SOPs, and offering trainings.
- Capable of leading enzyme related projects and working with cross-functional teams
- Work and communicate effectively with all cross-functional team members. Help to promote RDA’s culture of team delivery.
- Be an active contributor in idea generation, root-cause analysis, and problem solving discussion.
- Work with external resources (such as universities or suppliers) to leverage their resources in technology and new product development.
- Offer support to different business functions (such as Sales, Technical Services, Marketing, Operations, etc.) on their needs for enzyme analysis and problem solving.
- Give trainings/presentations to internal and external customers or at conference/trade shows/seminar/etc.
- Be flexible in taking additional project/tasks as business needs
- Proficient in self learning and enrichment to bring new knowledge and skills to the organization
Requirements:
- For this function, we are looking for a well-trained enzyme biochemist. An understanding of various enzymes and their baking applications will be a plus.
- The person should be capable of conducting basic enzyme biochemical analysis, such as various enzyme activity assays, SDS-PAGE, HPLC, etc.
- A BS, MS, or PhD degree in Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or Food Science (or other equivalent discipline) with 5-7 years’ experience in related research labs. A good background in enzyme chemistry or biochemistry is required.
- Capable of executing a variety of benchtop analytical and instrumental techniques – HPLC, GC-MS, ICP, titrations, etc.
- A customer focus, drive for results/can-do mentality is a must. Capable of building trusted relationship with customers and stakeholders.
- Highly motivated self-starter/time-management, with the passion of driving for results.
- Strong people skills are a must with open and clear communication skills. Capable of working effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
- Good problem solving skills, capable of using tools in experimental design and statistical analysis
- May need to travel overnight up to 20%
