REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Postgraduate qualification in environmental, animal, or agricultural science (or a related field).
- Relevant, proven science or industry experience.
PREFERRED CAPABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE
- Experience in nutrient management of agricultural systems with an emphasis on LCA and GHG mitigation.
- Experience in initiating and leading successful funding proposals.
- Experience managing research projects and collaborating and communicating with stakeholders.
- Experience in preparing reports and presentations to deliver to a range of stakeholders and farming groups.
- Strong English communication and written capabilities, evidenced by publications in high impact scientific journals.

THE ROLE AND OPPORTUNITY

We are committed to the knowledge system of mātauranga Māori on equal footing with Western science and existing structures, that have helped support positive change in farming practices and food production in Aotearoa.
We are seeking a dedicated Scientist to join our Environmental Science team on a full-time basis. The main purpose of this role is to prepare research proposals and lead/manage research projects focusing on Life Cycle Assessment, especially greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and other environmental burdens in agricultural systems, with particular emphasis on mitigating GHG emissions.
This is an exciting opportunity for a researcher with an environmental science or agricultural science background, who has a strong interest in Life Cycle Assessment and GHG mitigation. You will also be expected to have a key role in communicating the impacts of our research to our end-users and our stakeholders.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
- Developing new project proposals and identifying new opportunities for delivering Research & Development solutions to the NZ pastoral industry.
- Leading and managing research projects relating to LCA and greenhouse gas emissions from NZ pastoral systems.
- Interpreting and presenting results to a range of audiences including farmers, agricultural industry and policy representatives, and other research colleagues.
- Collaborating with national and international colleagues around LCA and GHG mitigation options, and circular bioeconomy practices.
