Purpose of Job
The successful candidate will be part of the team to build scientific expertise and strategic partnerships to drive the development of productive, resource efficient and climate resilient technologies and innovation in tropical aquaculture. This is to enhance Singapore’s food fish production and achieve the “30 by 30” vision, so as to ensure and secure a supply of safe food for Singapore.
The following roles are available in the Department:
Production Biology and Aquaculture Systems

We are looking for a passionate individual to transform the aquaculture industry and drive innovation and improve resilience in aquaculture farming methods and systems. As part of the team, you will be given the opportunity to

  • Spearhead R&D efforts to improve hatchery and live feeds production methods, and develop technologies to raise the industry’s capabilities in producing quality fingerlings. This includes the provision of technical support and training to hatchery operators on best practices in fingerling production.
  • Trial technologies or innovations to reduce nutrient discharge by farms and facilitate industry adoption, increasing the sustainability of aquaculture systems.
  • Uncover cost structures of current aquaculture systems and implement innovative technologies to optimise production costs.
  • Monitor and evaluate farming systems and culture protocols to optimize production efficiency and quality of fingerlings.
  • In addition, you will collaborate closely with research institutions and industry partners to implement the latest aquaculture technology and knowledge. This includes the conduct of research and experimentation to develop and refine aquaculture systems for sustainable and efficient production.

BREEDING AND GENETICS

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to advance our selective breeding improvement program. As part of the team, you will be given the opportunity to:

  • Drive selective breeding programs of Asian seabass and other species, and tackle challenges such as early sex change and lack of suitable broodstock diets.
  • Lead the management of broodstock to ensure a consistent supply of high-quality eggs for the local hatcheries. Additionally, you will develop and implement advanced broodstock management protocols to optimize the quality and quantity of eggs. This also includes responsibilities of monitoring and evaluating the genetic performance and traits of selected fish stocks.
  • Collaborate with established research institutions and industry partners and participate in research projects to advance genetic improvement programs and knowledge in aquaculture. This also includes providing technical support and training on best practices to industry stakeholders, to advance the state of knowledge in the industry.
