SUMMARY:

Serves as confidential secretary to the principal and as facilitator for the school public being served.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

  • Serve as confidential secretary to the principal.
  • Make and receive telephone calls, take messages, and route calls.
  • Enroll new students, withdraw students, and update student information.
  • Maintain files and records.
  • Greet visitors and provide direction and assistance as needed.
  • Type prepare and create reports, distribute mail and other information, files, maintain records, prepare correspondence, mailings, and other clerical work as related to needs and building functions.
  • Process employee attendance, payroll records and submit payroll for the building staff.
  • Requisition school supplies and prepare work orders while managing a school budget and maintain office supplies and equipment.
  • Operate standard office equipment, e.g., computer, telephone, calculator.
  • Adhere to policy/legal regulations regarding release of students to custodial parent, guardian, or other authorized person.
  • Take advantage of inservice training to improve and upgrade skills.
  • Present a pleasant, helpful attitude toward staff, students, parents, and visitors.
  • Direct substitute teachers and paraprofessionals to appropriate classroom and provides necessary information.
  • Make arrangements for buses (corporation and charter) for field trips and compiles after-school bus schedules.
  • Maintain regular attendance.

  • Ability to operate personal computers and related software as well as Google suite.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.
  • Ability to work independently, to function effectively in a multi-task environment, and to interact positively with the public.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of and in compliance with related corporation policies and state requirements.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Previous office experience preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to read and comprehend correspondence, memos, instructions, and documents, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.
  • Ability to write reports and correspondence clearly and concisely using correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Ability to speak effectively with good grammar before groups of people and with individuals.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret graphs.
