The State of New Hampshire, Department of Administrative Services, Division of Plant and Property has a part-time vacancy for Security Officer I.
Summary:
To enforce fire, safety and security rules and regulations in protecting state owned property.

18 Months of additional relevant experience = Associate’s degree
36 Months of additional relevant experience = Bachelor’s degree
54 Months of additional relevant experience = Master’s degree

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High school diploma or high school equivalency credential. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
Experience: One year’s experience in law enforcement work such as a security officer, military police officer, prison guard or certified police officer.
License/Certification: Valid driver’s license.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must be at least 21 years of age.
  2. A thorough character investigation and reference check will be made before appointment. Candidates who do not have good character or a conviction free record of serious offenses will be ineligible for appointment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of law enforcement work and arrest procedures. Skill in dealing with offenders of the rules and regulations established for the control of pilfering and damage to state -owned property. Ability to enforce laws in accordance with standard procedure to control pilfering and damage to state property. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to work with people and secure their cooperation without the use of violence. Ability to perform investigations, question witnesses and prepare written reports. Ability to use judgment when using force to control individuals or groups. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with employees, residents, other law enforcement agencies and the general public. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the agency appointing authority.
Responsibilities:
Patrols and inspects state buildings, grounds and personal property to ensure that state buildings and grounds are secure and safe from hazards, physical problems, vandalism and theft.
Responds to intrusions, mechanical and fire alarms at all state facilities during scheduled and off hours to determine the nature of the problem and take corrective action as necessary to maintain safe and secure buildings.
Checks mechanical equipment and mechanical areas, reports discrepancies and/or takes corrective action to assure that state facilities are maintained in a safe manner and to protect state property from damage.
Starts and stops mechanical equipment to maintain state office buildings in a safe and environmentally correct condition.
Monitors contractors to protect state and personal property from theft, vandalism and improper conduct.
Tests alarm systems on an as needed basis to assure their proper functioning and reports any equipment or system problems to maintain alarm systems in proper operating condition and protect state property.
