Job Title: Security Officer II
Department: Enterprise Security
FLSA: Non-Exempt
General Function
Responsible for performing high-level Security Officer duties to ensure the successful and effective protection of employees, guests, and assets, and reputation within Hy-Vee’s campuses. Security Officer II’s remain vigilant, act with integrity, uphold company policies and procedures, and conduct all interactions respectfully and tactfully.
Reporting Relations
Reports to: Director, Security Supervisor, Shift Lead Officer, Senior Security Officer
Positions that report to you: None

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Effectively and efficiently manages security operations posts to include: employee, visitor, and receiving entrances.
  • Maintain safe and orderly ingress and egress of buildings, ensuring that only authorized employees and approved guests are granted access to the facilities.
  • Conduct thorough random patrols of both the interior and exterior of assigned facilities, being vigilant for activities that have an impact on the safety and security of the facility.
  • Monitors and responds to all activations of the electronic security system, fire detection equipment, and emergency distress calls at assigned facilities.
  • Conduct routine daily, weekly, monthly, and/or annual safety and security equipment inspections and certifications and report such inspections accordingly.
  • Vigilantly monitors CCTV security camera systems to maintain awareness of internal and external property boundaries and respond to issues as they arise, keeping our facilities safe and problem-free.
  • Leads the response to security, medical, weather-related, and other critical incidents.
  • Meets and maintains a level of competency in emergency medical response protocols.
  • Prepares, proofreads, and submits detailed activity, incident, and situation reports and maintains clear, concise shift and duty logs.
  • Participates in scheduled Security meetings, training, and continuing education opportunities.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists with the transfer of mail, money, or other sensitive items from facility to facility.
  • Performs other job-related duties and special projects as required.

Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required. Minimum of three years of military, law enforcement, or security-related work experience OR one year as a Hy-Vee Security Officer I. Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check annually. Must be able to be trained and certified in CPR and AED use. A valid driver’s license with no restrictions is required.
A qualified candidate will need to think quickly on their feet and make correct decisions with little supervision. The ideal candidate would be tactically trained in emergency situations and able to respond appropriately to a threat. Verbal de-escalation such as Verbal Judo or MOAB training is ideal.

Physical Requirements

  • Visual requirements include the ability to see detail at near and far range with or without correction.
  • Must be physically able to perform heavy work: lifting no more than 100 pounds, with frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing no more than 50 pounds.
  • Must be physically capable of patrolling internal and external areas in various climates.
  • Must be able to perform the following physical activities: Climbing, stooping, kneeling, bending, standing, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, running, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Should also be able to perform medium through sedentary work.

  • Possess knowledge and experience as an armed security officer, law enforcement officer, or extensive military firearms experience (preferred).
  • Ability to successfully complete armed security officer qualification course (preferred).

Working Conditions
This position frequently involves a fast work pace in a general office setting. There is frequent pressure to handle multiple tasks in a day and meet deadlines.
Equipment Used to Perform Job
PC with Microsoft Office programs, calculator, telephone, copier, fax, printer, electronic security equipment, CCTV, visitor badge equipment, and handheld radio.
Contacts
Has frequent contact with executive staff members, corporate visitors, employees, store personnel, and law enforcement.
Confidentiality
Has access to confidential information including knowledge of employee confessions, and investigation proceedings on company personnel.
