Description:

The Manh Choh Project is a greenfield gold deposit in eastern Alaska being developed with ore being hauled to Kinross’ Fort Knox mine north of Fairbanks for processing. The mine site is located in the Tetlin Hills, approximately 250 miles southeast of Fort Knox and 10 miles southeast of Tok. Production is expected to begin in 2024.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Protect and safeguard employees, visitors, vendors, contractors, and company assets. Monitor access to and from the mine site. Operate and maintain security systems used in high-security areas, maintain written and computer logs, provide fire-fighting coverage, and operate fire suppression equipment and systems. Operate emergency response vehicles and equipment. Conduct on-site drug and alcohol testing. Assist with gold shipments. Responsibilities also include assisting with: accident/incident reporting mounted & walking patrols, vulnerability assessments, fire extinguisher inspections, and new miner MSHA training as well as other assigned activities. Participate in and conduct training on Bear Safety and Shotgun Safety. Greet all visitors and answer incoming calls courteously, determine their needs, and direct them to the proper person or office. One must also exhibit computer operating proficiency, including Microsoft Office, On Guard, and Lenel.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • A minimum of one-year security experience required.
  • A minimum of two years mining experience preferred.
  • Minimum two years’ experience in security or law enforcement preferred.
  • General understanding of mining operations preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to work independently.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor online surveillance areas and document events in the logs and operate weigh scales for vendor.
  • Conduct mounted and dismounted patrols.
  • Conduct training on topics of expertise as assigned, such as Bear Safety, New Miner Security presentation, Shotgun Safety/Qualification, etc.
  • Initiating Emergency Response Team (ERT) during emergency situations, coordinating assistance, and aiding the Emergency Response Team as needed.
  • Screen calls and radio communication to operate telephone switchboard.
  • Implement and support the company’s drug and alcohol testing program.
  • Issue and collect high security cards, keys, and locks and notify proper authorities when irregularities are found.
  • Attain ATF clearance to sign for explosives.
  • Responsible for receiving all visitors, and answering incoming calls courteously, determining their needs and directing them to the proper person and/or office.
  • Assist with the employee bulletin board posting, accident, incident reporting and monthly inspections.
  • Responsible for fire extinguisher inspections annually.
  • Pass Alaska Class II fire extinguisher test within six months of employment.
  • Responsible for security procedures during gold shipments.
  • Punctuality and regular attendance is required.
  • In the absence of a Security Supervisor, act independently, exercising sound judgment based upon Kinross Global Security Standards & Procedures, Security policies
  • Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures, including, but not limited to: security, safety, confidentiality, and environmental policies.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the state.
  • Work safely in all areas and identify potential safety hazards and work with management to correct them.
  • Work without significant risk of harm to self and others.
  • Perform other duties as required.
