As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work collaboratively with a team of experienced educators and support staff to provide individualised assistance to students with special educational needs. REQUIREMENTS:

  • Qualified Teaching Assistant OR Relevant SEN Background
  • PECS and Makaton training/experience
  • SLD, MLD, ASD and Complex needs experience
  • Level 1 safeguarding certificate
  • Recent school based references
  • Valid Photo ID – Driving Licence or passport
  • Full DBS – on the update service

Responsibilities:

THE SCHOOL/ROLE:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join our vibrant team at a leading Secondary SEN School in Walsall. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting students with a diverse range of complex and additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), and Down Syndrome.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Individualised Support: Provide one-on-one assistance to students with diverse needs, adapting teaching methods to accommodate their unique learning styles.
  • Inclusive Learning Environment: Contribute to the creation of a supportive and inclusive classroom atmosphere that encourages the social, emotional, and academic growth of each student.
  • Behavioural Support: Implement strategies to manage and positively influence the behaviour of students, working closely with the SEN team and other professionals.
  • Collaborative Planning: Work alongside teachers and other staff members to develop and implement individual education plans (IEPs) for students, ensuring that goals are tailored to their specific needs.
  • Assessment and Progress Monitoring: Regularly assess student progress and provide feedback to teachers, contributing to the overall evaluation of educational strategies and interventions.
  • Communication with Parents and Guardians: Maintain open and effective communication with parents and guardians, providing updates on student progress, achievements, and any concerns.
  • Assistive Technology: Utilise and support students in the use of assistive technology to enhance their learning experience and independence.
  • Personal Care: Provide personal care assistance as needed, ensuring the well-being and dignity of students with physical disabilities or medical needs.
  • Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay informed about the latest best practices and educational strategies for supporting students with special needs.
    The candidate for this role will be experienced supporting SEN children alongside children with a range of different academic attainment levels. This will require patience, commitment and the ability to provide a safe and welcoming learning environment.
