Job responsibilities*

The purpose of the Senior Accountant role is to assist with the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements for TFG Financial Corporation through reconciling complex general ledger accounts and resolving accounting issues. The role is also responsible for preparing the financial statements for other legal entities within the Travelers Group. Moreover, the Senior Accountant will assist in other areas or tasks related to operations, reporting, and securitization.

  • Reconcile complex general ledger accounts for TFG Financial Corporation (“TFG”)
  • Act as the first level of team resource to resolve accounting questions/issues and ensure that the TFG monthly financial statements package is completed within 10 business days
  • Prepare monthly financial statements for other legal entities and work closely with the respective business managing partners
  • Review semi-monthly payroll and sales commission calculations to ensure they are accurate and processed on time
  • Review and release daily funding and other payments for all companies
  • Support the year end audit process by answering the auditors’ inquiries and prepare the appropriate working papers and supporting schedules
  • Assist with the preparation of the tax returns by gathering the required information and preparing supporting schedules
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly Statistics Canada reports
  • Support the Credit and Collections Teams with reporting requirements
  • Work closely with securitization partners to resolve discrepancies and issues with funder payments
  • Mentor and train junior team members
  • Assist in the annual budgeting process
  • Investigate monthly variances between actual vs. budget
  • Prepare ad-hoc reports, other tasks and special projects, as required.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience*

  • A strong sense of integrity, professionalism and a results-oriented attitude to continually improve processes and systems, enhance efficiency, and contribute to overall organizational success
  • Works well under pressure to meet ongoing and overlapping deadlines within short time constraints
  • Detail oriented with attention to details and a continuous improvement mindset
  • Effective communication, organization and interpersonal skills
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office products
  • Canadian CPA designation (CA, CGA, CMA and CPA) or equivalents required
  • 5+ years of previous accounting experience in medium or large size companies
  • Experience with financial reporting and generally accepted accounting principles including ASPE; knowledge of IFRS and US GAAP would be an asset
  • Experience with payroll and provincial employment standards and regulations
  • Experience in computerized accounting systems and internal controls
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics Business Central or other mid-tier ERP, and Sage 50

Salary: $85,000.00-$90,000.00 per year
