Description:

THE OPPORTUNITY:

The Institute for Academic Development (IAD) are looking for a well-organised and detail-oriented administrator to provide comprehensive administrative support to the Head of Research Cultures and Head of Researcher Development on a variety of different University-wide projects, programmes and initiatives .
In this interesting and varied role, you will support the organisation and administration of the Research Cultures Action Plan (RGAP) Delivery Group and Research Cultures Forum. You will also provide administrative support for other meetings and Forums supported by the IAD’s researcher development team, including for the Doctoral College and the Concordat Implementation Group. You will liaise with key academic and professional services contacts from across the University. You must be able to provide quality – i.e. timely and organised – administrative support to ensure that a high-quality service is provided to students, staff, and external participants.
This post is full-time (35 hours per week), however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working. We expect this role would require a minimum of two days working on-campus in the IAD Morgan Lane office, with additional time on-campus as required by business needs.
The Institute for Academic Development is located in Edinburgh’s beautiful Old Town. We are a medium-sized support service department of 45–50 staff based in a modern University complex, just off Holyrood Road. We are just a 5-10 minute walk from the central Waverley train station and Princes Street area, thus have excellent bus and train link access.
Informal enquiries regarding the role can be sent to cheryl.thomas@ed.ac.uk

YOUR SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES FOR SUCCESS:

  • Minimum of vocational qualifications (N/SVQ 3, ONC or equivalent) plus work experience in a relevant role
  • Proven experience in an administrative role that required information management and diary management
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and a working knowledge of standard IT packages (MS Office)
  • Experience working with senior managers and stakeholders
  • Experience of providing high-quality customer service.
  • An interest in research cultures and/or knowledge of the Researcher Development Concordat, and experience of organising and supporting in-person events, would be desirable
