Location is flexible, within Alberta, dependent on the successful applicant.
However, periodically may be asked to work in other AFSC branches. Travel in these circumstances will be reimbursed according to AFSC’s Employee and Board of Directors Expense Policy.
Reporting to the Manager, Corporate & Information Governance, this position assumes a pivotal role in supporting the design and implementation of the corporate governance, policy and compliance monitoring processes and practices. With a focus on ensuring adherence to provincial and federal laws, regulations, and industry standards, this role plays an integral part in fostering a culture of ethics and integrity within the organization while effectively mitigating compliance risks. This position requires a deep understanding of the broader implications of policy decisions, ensuring alignment with AFSC’s goals and objectives.

What will you be responsible for?

  • Support the design and implementation of the corporate compliance program in alignment with governance requirements.
  • Design and implement corporate policies, and compliance monitoring processes, including developing necessary compliance controls, and monitoring activities.
  • Conduct independent compliance audits and reports.
  • Analyze complex data and create data visualization models for board presentations related to Corporate Governance and compliance activities.
  • Engage with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to enhance policies and meet legal obligations, collect metrics for board reporting.

Education and Experience

  • Generally, a minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in policy development, compliance, risk management, or related fields is preferred.
  • Experience working in a regulated industry, such as financial services, agriculture, or government, is often highly valued.
  • Demonstrated experience in policy development, interpretation, implementation, and monitoring is essential.
  • Familiarity with data analysis and visualization tools, such as Excel, Tableau, or Power BI, is also required for analyzing compliance data and reporting insights.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and provincial legal and regulatory requirements relevant to the AFSC is required e.g., Government of Alberta legislation and directives such as but not limited to: Alberta Financial Services Act, FOIP, Records Management Directive etc.
  • Experience with regulatory compliance frameworks, ISO standards, NIST guidelines, or industry-specific regulations, is an asset.
  • Proven experience in providing training and guidance to staff on compliance-related matters is desirable.
  • Experience with project management principles and practices is beneficial for effectively managing policy and compliance initiatives.
  • Experience leading or participating in audits, risk assessments, or compliance reviews is advantageous.
