Trans-Northern Pipelines Inc. (TNPI) operates regulated pipelines to safely transport the refined petroleum products (gasoline, diesel, aviation, and heating fuel) used by Canadian businesses and consumers every day. These pipelines connect refineries in Edmonton to Calgary, including the Calgary International Airport; and refineries in Nanticoke, Ont., and Montreal to the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), with lateral pipelines to Ottawa as well as to Pearson International Airport and Pierre-Elliot Trudeau International Airport. Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources, as the Senior Advisor, Total Rewards, you will be responsible for shaping equitable and competitive total rewards programs. This encompasses base pay, variable pay, job evaluation, allowances, compensation reviews, pay equity, benefits, pension, and time off. Your pivotal role involves developing and implementing total reward strategies to foster a people-centric organization and enhance our employee value proposition (EVP).

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • 10+ years direct experience in compensation or total rewards functions.
  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Management, or related discipline.
  • Experience with pay-equity compliant points-based job evaluation methodologies.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with total cash programs including base pay, allowances and variable pay programs.
  • Extensive knowledge of external surveys (i.e. Mercer) and market benchmarking practices and norms. Oil and gas industry preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to think and act strategically as well as proven sound decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive and confidential issues with tact and objectivity and handle this information with diplomacy and integrity.
  • Strong planning, coordination, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated advanced level proficiency with Excel.
  • Exposure to benefits and/or payroll, benefits, and pension administration.

Preference for:

  • Completion of CHRL designation is considered an asset.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and execute the end-to-end annual salary review process, including job evaluation and salary grade assignments, while ensuring alignment with internal and pay equity principles.
  • Conduct comprehensive market research and analysis to forecast trends, participate in compensation surveys, recommend merit strategies, and establish competitive pay practices to attract and retain top talent.
  • Collaborate with leaders on job descriptions, provide feedback and support in job content completion, and review salary recommendations for new hires or job changes in partnership with Talent Acquisition.
  • Manage TNPI’s Pay Equity compliance, overseeing adherence to laws and regulations, and lead the implementation of adjustments to maintain compliance.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, including Compensation Administration guidelines, and total rewards policies that align with organizational objectives, legal requirements, pay equity and industry best practices.
  • Design and conduct leadership training to equip leaders with the skills needed to fulfill their compensation related responsibilities effectively.
  • Provide updates on job evaluation status and deliver metrics related to compensation, utilizing analytical insights to provide recommended solutions and support decision-making processes.
  • Regularly review and update total rewards policies, as well as job evaluation processes, procedures, and guidelines to ensure consistency, clarity, and continuous improvement in policy effectiveness.
  • Research, forecast, and recommend annual salary structure movements and merit budget in addition to investigating other cash compensation considerations.
  • Monitor policy effectiveness and seek opportunities for improvement.
